Chasing The Dead by Tim Weaver was superb. A smash, crash, wallop across the spine, dragged backwards through a hedge by your nose hair kind of read. It was a belter. Went googly-eyed after the first few pages and ordered the whole lot, knowing I had found precisely my cup of tea. Like all the wonderful series I’m enjoying at the moment, I’m going to draw it out slowly, rather than binge and feel empty and guilty. The end result is that now I have a number of book series that I really like, and rotate, dive in and out of, and throw in new things along the way. It’s a pretty fulfilling way to read!

Next up is The Neon Rain by James Lee Burke, and no sooner have I just come across a series that will influence and enthral me, I stumble across another. Good God – this is hardboiled, bad-ass, cripplingly entertaining and plain beautiful. I love the stark contrast created by the frankly stunning, evocative descriptions with the stone-cold cut-throat world Burke writes of. Looking ahead, I see that this series (following this utter dude, Lieutenant Dave Robicheaux) is already twenty novels plus. I sense another binge purchase spree approaching – I’m going to have to have all of these, I just know it. I can see James Lee Burke becoming a massive influence of mine – I’m in awe at this point.
